Ruth Theodore has just signed an exciting record deal with Ani Difranco’s Righteous Babe Records in the USA
Ruth met luthier Nathan at a music night when she was about 20. She recalls. “He played guitar like it was a part of him. We were immediately close friends and have been ever since. Having your guitars made for you by someone you love is just such a dream. Nathan takes his time to understand what it is I’m needing
I often play in standard but starting from C#. My tracks and my vocal really benefit from the depths you can get to but it’s got to ring out right or it falls short. Nathan and I are constantly working to get my guitars to resonate fully down there. I know he’s got it right when it makes my chest vibrate. I also write and perform using my own homegrown tuning. It’s basically variations on an open C#. It has become quite a staple in my music. Nathan takes time to set up the action on each string so it delivers to full potential. I’ve never found another guitar maker who’s guitars are capable of being pushed this way. It’s really something.”

“The last time I played the London Palladium Ruth Theodore was on the bill with me. I watched from the wings inspired by her authenticity, her connection with my audience, and her free artistic spirit. That night I saw her as a true Righteous Babe. Last fall, when she reached out with her new album, it seemed the perfect time to reuniteand help introduce her to North America.”
